The Apple Phone 5 launch expected at today's invite-only event at the company's headquarters in Cupertino starts in just over an hour, and speculation over what the device will have in terms of specifications is at an all-time high.

First and foremost is the design of the iPhone 5. The much-anticipated 'teardrop' design may  be on its way, and Apple is most likely to replace the current glass backing with an aluminum plate making the iPhone 5 slimmer than its predecessors.

Every event of Apple has seen a new version if iOS being announced, and based on the past experiences, we expect the iPhone 5 to come equipped with iOS 5. A number of beta versions of iOS 5 have been knocking about, and we expect that now is the right time for the final version.

Apple rivals like Samsung, LG and Motorola have all come up with handsets that are powered by mighty dual-core processors, and we expect Apple to follow the trend. The handset is expected to come a  Cortex A5 processor of between 2 and 1.5 GHz. The iPad 2 tablet is powered by this processor, so it seems a sensible bet that its little sibling with follow suit.

It's also expected that the iPhone will come equipped with 1GB of RAM. In terms of camera, chances are Apple would match the specifications of other cutting-edge smartphones, and fit  an 8-megapixel snapper - or may be better, according to a report from IT site PC World.

In a recent refresh of its MacBook Air and Mini range, Apple introduced the Bluetooth 4.0. The new version seems a decent bet for the iPhone 5 because of its greater capabilities and lower power consumption.

Voice-assisted functions may be the big surprise for the iPhone 5. Apple news site 9to5Mac reports that Norman Winarksy, co-founder of Siri, is expecting the launch of the same in the today’s event.
