Facebook has finally launched its long-awaited official app for iPad, putting an end to nearly 18 months of speculations and leaks.
The app is available for free from the iTunes App Store, and has been described as being an 'immersive' app compared to its predecessors.
Leon Dubinsky, a software engineer with Facebook, told the UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Use your fingertips to scroll through your News Feed. Give the screen a swipe to page through albums. Pinch a picture to zoom in."
Facebook CTO Bret Taylor told IT news site AllThingsD that Facebook is also working to update its native Android app. Taylor thinks that having such native apps would enable a more social approach towards discovery of new mobile apps.
The recent changes to Facebook's webpage are also prominent in the iPad app. The app also makes sure that all notifications and messages are present at the top of each screen enabling you to respond to messages quickly.
Hours after the app was made available through the app store, reports have started flowing in about a number of bugs that have been encountered. According to users, it seems that the app doesn't quite work well while it iPad is in the docking station.
As one tweet by user Daniel Pasco humourously put it: "Downloaded the new Facebook app for my iPad and I have to say, the new crash-on-launch feature is amazing."
Many believe that the timing of iPad couldn't have been better as it would definitely attract the attention of users who might have wandered off to Google+.
