YouTube redesign makes content easier to find

First major overhaul in video site's history

YouTube redesign

YouTube has revamped its homepage, redesigning its layout with a TV channel-like design in the first major overhaul since its inception.

YouTube made the following announcement on its blog: "So, today we're introducing a new homepage, Channel design and a fresh coat of digital paint."

Explaining the changes, the post said, "we want to make it easier for you to find and keep tabs of what you want to watch."

The site's home page has been divided in three, with the channels section on the left, and recommended videos on the right. A centre strip contains videos that are either, or from a selected channel. Users can even connect to different social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Orkut directly from YouTube to share their favourite videos.

Channels can be customised by viewers according to their preferences. Uploaders can use channel templates to upload their videos, enabling them to get to target the right audience for their clips.

YouTube calls the revamp "a fresh coat of digital paint across the whole site". The combination of Channels and new home page layout, makes the website a lot easier to use and navigate.
