MoGo - Mouse BT review
Bluetooth laptop mouse that fits in a PC Card slot
Review date: 12 February, 2007. Review by: Sandra Vogel
What you'll be hard pressed to find, though, is a mouse that sits in the PC Card slot of your laptop and so travels in just about as trouble-free a way as is possible, that adds a mere 41g to the overall weight of your computing bag, and that has a rechargeable battery that gets its power boost from the PC Card slot so that you don't have to worry about providing fresh batteries every now and then. It is certainly an alluring combination.
When you are ready to use the MoGo Mouse BT you switch it on by flipping down a stand that has lain flush to its underside while it has been sitting in the PC Card slot of your laptop, then put it on the desk with its raised edge towards your wrist and two forefingers nestled in gentle recesses on its front end.
This creates a degree of elevation that is quite comfortable under the hand, and unless you are very picky about how your mouse feels, you should find it quite ergonomic. Because the design is symmetrical, both 'lefties' and 'righties' should be equally comfy with it.
To get the mouse to work with your laptop you need to make a Bluetooth connection. If your laptop doesn't have Bluetooth a USB dongle can add it for about £10. To get the Mouse's Bluetooth to turn on you first activate the mouse by flicking its stand down, then press an area on its bottom edge that is marked 'connect'.
This wasn't as responsive as it could have been, and often we had to try several times before getting it to work. Once you are paired with the laptop, though, just turning the mouse on and hitting the left or right buttons makes a connection.
In use cursor movement was a little jerky whenever the test laptop was busy with other tasks. Loading Web pages made cursor movement a bit slow, for example. We could live with it but it may be irritating to some users, considering the price. Much of the time, though, cursor movement was smooth and the 500dpi resolution optical system seemed to work fine.
Verdict
The MoGo Mouse BT is certainly different from the many, many laptop mice out there and when it works well it is very impressive. It's jerky moments during high CPU load were irritating, though, and it is not cheap.
