Q) What is your aim?
A) To provide honest, independent and occasionally entertaining reviews of computer hardware and software (for consumers and small-to medium-sized businesses), games (PC, PlayStation, etc.) and other IT-related products, allowing users to make an informed decision at the time of purchase.
Q) What makes you potentially less biased than other sites?
A) Many such sites are spin-offs from printed magazines, and often have to keep advertisers relatively happy. That doesn't necessarily mean saying nice things about a lousy product, but if a magazine like PC Box-Shifter regularly carries ten pages of advertising from Acme Computers, you can bet that when PC Box-Shifter runs a comparative review of a select group of fast PCs, Acme Computers will be one of the participants. Perhaps this doesn't matter too much, but we don't work that way. Here, advertisers pay once for a set number of adverts. If they don't want to place any more adverts because we've (justifiably) told people that one of their products is useless, that's fine. There are plenty of other advertisers around and our small organisation doesn't need many adverts in order to break even.
Q) Why should your reviews be taken seriously?
A) Because they are written by professional IT journalists. The people who write the reviews for IT Reviews are specialists in their field. Every one has been in this industry for at least five years, and all have worked for at least one of the mainstream PC titles, such as PC Magazine, PC Week, PC Gaming World, IT Week, PC Direct, ComputerActive and so on. Most are still regular contributors to some of those titles. We don't use trainee or amateur writers.
Q) If you use the same journalists, why is your site any different?
A) It isn't the journalists who decide the focus of the magazine, but the publishers and editors. Journalists are given a free hand when writing for IT Reviews. That is not always the case with other magazines.
Q) Why are you doing this?
A) We feel there's a need; a Web site containing truly independent reviews designed to give computer users more purchasing power. Our reviews are completely honest; we pull no punches. In addition, many of the reviews appear here as much as a month earlier than they would in a printed magazine.
Q) Your site looks very simple. Where's all the fancy animation?
A) This site is intended for viewing by any browser, which maximises its audience. Only simple, comment-free HTML and small images are used; no Java, ActiveX, DHTML, etc. Just because you don't have the latest technology doesn't mean you can't read about it. And this keeps your online costs to a minimum, too; the average page downloads in approximately five seconds using a standard modem.
Q) I have a comment to make about your site
A) All comments are welcome. Please contact us.
